An Independent Spirit

Since 2018, the Nomade fragrance line has evoked the free-spirited spontaneity of the Chloé woman. An invitation to travel, to look outward and not in, the scent imagines an olfactory journey for the self-assured woman — someone who follows her intuition and is grounded by a true-to-herself authenticity. She travels light and doesn’t overthink; she follows her own beat; she is free.

New Horizons

Following Nuit d’Égypte, Nomade continues to find inspiration in Egypt, the birthplace of Chloé founder Gaby Aghion, with a new chapter, Lumière d’Égypte. A progressive and independent spirit, Gaby was daring for her time and an ally for women, whose fashion designs accompanied their changing role in society. She was a true Parisian but spoke often of the colours of Egypt, etched in her mind as a landscape bathed in a warm luminosity.

In the search for new horizons, Lumière d’Égypte takes us on a journey along the Nile, on the banks of which grows the blue lotus, a native waterlily long celebrated for its sacred properties. This day-blooming flower, which opens at first light and closes mid-afternoon, emits a soft floral scent, airy and delicate, mingled here the unmistakable sweetness of jasmine, and earthy, heady notes of kyphi, a compound incense that was sacred to ancient Egyptian perfumery and the earliest perfume known to humankind. Archaeologists discovered formulas for kyphi recorded in the Temple of Horus in Edfu and Temple of Hathor in Dendera; it was a substance was burnt by the priests of antiquity to honour the god Ra, and equally used for medicinal purposes. The age-old alchemic art of kyphi has been reinterpreted by the master perfumers behind the Chloé Nomade Égypt-inspired line.

A Mythical Life Force

To realise Lumière d’Égypte, Cécile Matton took inspiration from the Nile: the coolness of its waters, the lush vegetation bordering its banks, and the dry heat of the desert beyond — all bathed in the magical Egyptian light. She was struck by the mystical life force that follows the rhythm of the sun.

At first, soft top notes of blue lotus accord unfurling at daybreak release a delicate, aquatic fragrance that radiates with a green, airy floralcy.

The lotus accord is haloed by jasmine evoking the sweet heat of summer nights. Heliac, fruity, and animalic, jasmine grandiflorum absolute reveals a captivating, velvety warmth.

The final expression of the fragrance offers a sensual minerality — like a breeze stirring over the dunes. Spicy and effervescent nuances of pink berry and elemi essential oil round out the scent, unveiling notes of kyphi accord — here, a bespoke blend of essential oils, including cinnamon bark, sandalwood and

Myrrh — that complete Lumière d’Égypte’s luminous eau de parfum

Nomade Lumière d’Égypte is presented in the line’s iconic flacon, while the knot tied around its neck is cast anew in a shade of dusky blue. For the campaign imagery, the fragrance bottle is photographed against a backdrop of time-worn, ceramic plates in the style of pottery from the antiquities, glazed a deep Mediterranean blue and adorned with painted lotus flowers.
