WASHINGTON – Erica Reid and Barbara Paldus, two leading entrepreneurs and innovators from the healthy lifestyle and clean beauty sectors, have joined EWG’s board of directors.
Barbara Paldus holds a doctorate in electrical engineering from Stanford University. For more than two decades, she has led innovation in the fields of spectroscopy, telecommunications and biotechnology. By 34, Paldus had co-founded two Silicon Valley companies that helped pave the way for carbon-cycle measurements, food integrity testing, accessible vaccines, personalized medicine and cell therapy. Paldus has been awarded more than 30 U.S. patents and numerous scientific honours. EWG is thrilled to have added more scientific expertise to our board through Paldus’ membership.
Paldus is the founder of Codex Beauty, an internationally recognized hi tech innovator developing skincare that is clinically proven, utilizes a patent-pending food-grade preservation system, and has an intense focus on sustainability by minimizing carbon emissions. . . Paldus launched Codex Beauty in June 2019, with a number of EWG VERIFIED™ products. Codex Beauty is committed to having all of its products achieve EWG VERIFIED™ status.
“I would like to thank EWG for this opportunity to contribute to helping define clean beauty,” said Paldus. “I am delighted to be joining the board and hope to contribute to helping EWG define next-generation clean beauty, as well as sustainability and safety standards.”
Erica Reid is a noted author and the founder of nécessité, a global healthy lifestyle brand that empowers consumers to embrace and support clean beauty brands and other sustainable products, from home and interior to food and fashion.
Reid is the author of “Shut Up and Cook!,” a collection of modern, healthy and easy-to-make recipes, and “The Thriving Child: Parenting Successfully through Allergies, Asthma, and Other Common Challenges.” Reid has relied on EWG’s tips, databases and other tools to reduce her family’s exposure to toxic chemicals in personal care products, food and cookware. She and her husband, L.A. Reid, a noted record executive, music and film producer and author, live in Los Angeles with their two children.
“When I was on this journey over 18 years ago of making more mindful health choices for my family and me, I had no support,” said Reid. “I was left alone to figure it out. I am very thankful to know like-minded individuals today have more guidance, support and direction to aid them in their quest for better health, with a great organization like EWG there to help. I am proud to serve as a member of the board.”
“I’m thrilled Barbara and Erica have agreed to join the board,” said EWG President and fellow board member Ken Cook. “Their unique insights into clean beauty and healthy living will be invaluable to EWG as we continue our role as the leading agent for change in the personal care sector. Together, they bring a collective expertise, passion and an innovative spirit that will complement an already impressive board of respected thought leaders.”
Reid and Paldus join fellow board members Michelle Pfeiffer, Meg Cadoux Hirshberg, Laura Turner Seydel, Dr. Harvey Karp and Nina Montee Karp, David Baker, Robert Fetherstonhaugh, Christine Gardner, Melissa Hughes, Mark Hyman, M.D., C.J.
