The changeable and unpredictable Irish weather can wreak havoc on your skin. Between the dropping temperatures, rain and wind, combined with indoor heating, moisture is drawn from the skin leaving it lacklustre, dull and dry. When skin becomes dry, its softness and elasticity is impaired and the skin’s microbiome is compromised.

Tweaking your skincare routine with hydrating heroes during these colder months can do wonders for nourishing the complexion. Michelle Macken, National Trainer for Ultraceuticals, said, ‘As the cooler temperatures draw in, it’s important to adjust our skincare regime to hydrate, nourish and protect the skin through the winter months. Cold weather combined with central heating can be harsh on the skin and can cause it to become dry and dull in appearance.”

Michelle’s top tips to maintain healthy glowing skin throughout winter;

1.Hydrate the skin from within

Consuming the right amount of water daily can promote a dewy, hydrated complexion. If you are struggling to drink water and find it flavourless, chop up some fruit and add it to your water to give it a pleasant taste. Essential Fatty acids obtained from walnuts, avocados and fish also help to nourish your skin from within

2 .Use a nourishing cleanser

Choose a nourishing cleanser to help maintain moisture levels in your skin during the winter. The Ultra hydrating milk cleanser is a rich milky emulsion which contains Grapeseed oil and Vitamin E to gently cleanse your skin.

3.Choose a richer moisturiser

During the winter, use a heavier moisturiser containing additional essential fatty acids, ceramides and cholesterol. The Ultra Rich Moisturiser Cream provides intense moisture for dry and very dry skin types.

4.Hydrate your skin with humectants

Did you know that a humectant is a water-absorbing substance used to keep things moist? Sodium Hyaluronate is a key humectant (ingredient) to use this winter. It holds x1000 times its weight in water in the skin. Ultra B2 Hydrating serum contains Sodium Hyaluronate plus Panthenol and Niacinamide. Applying this underneath a moisturiser at night works to give the skin a plump and dewy complexion.

6.Protect your skin all year round

UVA rays are present all year round and they can cause accelerated skin ageing. For optimum protection from UV rays I would recommend using Ultra UV Protective Daily Moisturiser SPF 30 Or SPF 50 and for optimum protection.
